Playing on the Washington Wizards summer league squad worked out well for both former Florida forward Devin Robinson and former Gator point guard Chris Chiozza.
The 6-foot-9 Robinson was among the top scorers in NBA Summer League action in Las Vegas, averaging 19.8 points and 6.0 rebounds. Chiozza, meanwhile, displayed his toughness and court vision, averaging 4.8 points, 2.0 steals and finishing third in the summer league in assists at 7.4 per game.
Former Florida forward Egor Koulechov didn’t see as much action in summer league play for the Minnesota Timberwolves, averaging 1.5 points and 1.0 rebounds in 3.5 minutes per game over two games. Former Florida forward Dorian Finney-Smith averaged 9 points and 4.5 rebounds in two summer league games with the Dallas Mavericks.
Former Florida center John Egbunu is still rehabbing from knee issues that sidelined him throughout his senior season in 2017-18 and did not latch on with a summer league team.
Other notes:
— Former Florida assistant coach Donnie Jones has left his assistant coaching job at Wichita State to reunite with UF former assistant and current Dayton head coach Anthony Grant. Jones and Grant worked together on Billy Donovan’s staff at Florida from 1996-2006 and were on the bench together for UF’s first national basketball title in 2006.
— Former Gator forward Alex Murphy has agreed to a deal to play overseas in Hungary this upcoming season. Murphy’s older brother, former UF forward Erik Murphy, also is mulling offers overseas after ending last season with the Oklahoma City Blue in the NBA G League.
I sure would like to see Chiozza play in the NBA but I just don’t think he has the size. Hopefully he can find a place overseas and make some money playing. Nobody plays harder than him.
