Florida will be on the road to face Ole Miss this weekend. But fans interested in seeing high-level high school basketball teams and players, including Florida 2015 signee Kevarrius Hayes, can travel to Ocala on Saturday for the Vince Murray Challenge.
The triple-header will be held at Trinity Catholic High School’s gym. Hayes’ Suwannee High team will face St. Petersburg at 4:30 p.m., followed by Potter’s House Christian Academy vs. Elevate Academy at 6 p.m. and Vanguard vs. Trinity Catholic at 7:30 p.m.
Though Florida hasn’t officially announced its 2015 signing class yet, the 6-foot-9 Hayes confirmed he signed a National Letter of Intent last November. A long, rangy, plus defender with similar skills to former Gator forward Will Yeguete, Hayes is the 73rd ranked prospect in the Class of 2015 according to ESPN.com.
Other top players slated to take part in the event include 6-10 PHCA center Udoka Azubuike (9th ranked player by ESPN.com in Class of 2016), 6-3 Elevate guard J.T. Escobar (a 2015 Ole Miss signee), 6-8 Elevate forward Leroy Butts (a 2015 Rhode Island signee), 6-8 PHCA forward Jared Jones (ESPN.com’s number 2 ranked eighth grader), 6-5 St. Petersburg guard Kobie Eubanks (a highly-rated college prospect), 6-9 Elevate forward YankubaSima (highly-rated college prospect), 6-8 PHCA forward Oliver Joshua (a Division I prospect) and Trinity Catholic forward Simeon Kirkland (a highly-rated sophomore).
