Unfortunately, I was unable to track down Florida sophomore big man Kenny Kadji to get more of an explanation on why he left the program.
But in an effort to reach Kadji, I was able to catch up with his classmate, former sophomore UF guard Ray Shipman.
Shipman left Florida in April over playing time issues and has resurfaced at UCF, where the former 2008 Florida Mr. Basketball is now giving football a try.
“I consider it a blessing,” Shipman said.
Shipman said it wasn’t tough to leave basketball behind. At 6-foot-5, 210-pounds Shipman said he will play strong safety at the college level. He plans to redshirt this year and work out with the Knights to get his body into football shape.
“It wasn’t that tough because football was my first love,” Shipman said. “I played football before I played basketball.”
Shipman, a Miramar native, played football and basketball at Monsignor Pace High in Miami.
Shipman visited basketball coaches at Miami, Florida Atlantic and Louisiana-Lafayette before opting to play football at UCF. He’s enrolled in Summer B sessions at the Orlando campus.
