Incoming freshman Florida power forward Patric Young put together a strong showing for the USA 18-under team at the FIBA Americas basketball championships in San Antonio, Texas.
Highlights for Young included an 11-point effort against Argentina and an eight-point, 11-rebound game against Brazil.
The 6-foot-9, 222-pound Young made a good impression on Georgia Tech coach Paul Hewitt. Hewitt is serving as an assistant under Oklahoma coach John Capel this week for Team USA.
“He’s making plays, rebounding and running the floor well,” Hewitt told ESPN college basketball analyst Andy Katz. “Offensively, he’s looking good. He gives tremendous effort every time — great effort — and he’ll help Florida even if he doesn’t score a ton of buckets. He’s going to help them. He’ll defend, set screens and do all those things without scoring points.”
Young is expected to arrive on campus soon for UF’s second summer session. The tournament ended June 30.
