Florida received more good news this offseason on Wednesday when incoming freshman Patric Young was named to the Team USA 18-under men’s basketball team.
Young, a 6-foot-9 power forward from Jacksonville, will join the USA squad in its quest for the FIBA Americas under-18 championship in San Antonio, Texas, from June 26-30.
Young was one of 19 players to try out over the past three days and made the cut of 12. The team will be coached by Oklahoma head coach John Capel. Georgia Tech’s Paul Hewitt and Buffalo’s Reggie Witherspoon will serve as assistants.
The USA is in in Group A of the eight-team competition with Mexico, Argentina and the Virgin Islands.
Young is the 13th McDonald’s All-American that Florida coach Billy Donovan has recruited to campus. He’s expected to provide quality depth behind an all-senior starting frontline of Vernon Macklin, Alex Tyus and Chandler Parsons. Young will arrive on campus shortly after the end of the FIBA competition for UF’s second summer session.
