Taking a quick break from hoops news, I’m planning to help a friend in need next month for a worthy cause.
I’ll be hosting the Kahn Foundations’ fourth annual 2010 G0lf scramble for Kids and Life. The four-person best ball scramble will take place June 11 at Haile Plantation Golf & Country Club in Gainesville, with a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start.
No, I’m not a golfer, but I encourage all area golfers to attend. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Alachua County Boys and Girls Club and the Shands Transplant Center at the University of Florida.
Helping the transplant center is a personal endeavor for my friend, tournament organizer Darren Kahn. In 1998, Kahn’s father, Henry, received a liver transplant from Shands that saved his life. In all, liver disease affects 30 million in the U.S., which is close to 1 in 10 Americans.
