Florida is carrying its trend of scheduling tougher in non-conference play into next season.
The Gators will get an early test when they face Ohio State on Nov. 16 at the O’Connell Center. It will air as part of ESPN’s 24-hour marathon of college basketball games. Under the home-and-h0me series, Florida will make a return trip to Ohio State in the 2011-12 season.
Though Florida doesn’t officially comment on its schedule until it’s completed in late August, Ohio State coach Thad Matta confirmed the series when introducing new assistant coach Dave Dickerson.
Last season, Florida posted big wins against Florida State and Michigan State in November to return to the NCAA Tournament after a two-year absence. Florida also has non-conference games slated at Xavier and at Florida State next season.
Florida and Ohio State had a previous home-and-home series in 2006-07 and 2007-08. Florida beat the Buckeyes 86-60 in the O’Connell Center and lost 62-49 in Columbus. In between, Florida beat Ohio State 84-75 in the Georgia Dome in 2007 for its second straight NCAA Championship.
