Former Gator forward Eloy Vargas has landed at Miami Dade Community College.
The move to junior college will give Vargas the chance to become academically eligible before he can transfer to another Division I school. The 6-foot-9 Vargas visited Kentucky last weekend.
Vargas struggled with ankle problems and academic issues during his freshman year at UF and never got on track. In nine games, Vargas averaged 0.6 points and 0.7 rebounds with five blocked shots.
In other news concerning former Gators, former UF point guard Nick Calathes was named to the Greek National team’s 12-man roster last week. Calathes and the rest of the Greek team will compete in the European Championships in Poland next week.
Calathes left Florida last June to sign a pro contract for a team in Greece.
