Florida’s search for a point guard to replace Nick Calathes could come after the recent resignation of USC coach Tim Floyd.
Lamont “Mo Mo” Jones, a 6-foot, 190-pound guard from New York City is interested in coming to Florida after being released from his USC letter of intent, according to a source close to the program.
Arizona also is in the mix, though ‘Zona insiders concede that he’s more interested in UF. Jones, the 88th ranked prospect in the class of 2009 according to ESPN.com, is touted as a scoring point guard who also plays aggressive defense. He grew up in Harlem, a renowned hotbed of basketball talent that most recently produced ex-N.C. State star Julius Hodge.
Florida reportedly has no interest is signing another 2009 New York City standout, swing-man Lance Stephenson, because of his excess baggage. Stephenson’s interest in UF was chronicled in our May 25th blog.
Meanwhile, reports have Florida moving closer to securing a commitment from Brazilian 7-footer Fab Melo for the Class of 2010, though Louisville and Syracuse remain in the mix.
