Melo is making a trip to Gainesville.
No, not Carmelo Anthony. He’s gearing up for Denver’s NBA Western Conference finals appearance.
But recruiting moles have confirmed that 7-foot, 263-pound Fabricio De Melo of Sagemont High in Weston will be checking out the UF campus this weekend.
Melo is the 25th ranked player in the Class of 2010 according to Scout.com and the fifth ranked center. For a Florida team that lacked a significant post presence last season, the only hope is that he could come a year sooner.
Melo visited Syracuse last weekend and also has visited Louisville and Connecticut. Texas also has shown interest.
De Melo transferred from his high school in Brazil to Sagemont High last summer. He averaged 13.5 points per game for the 17-under Brazilian National Team. On his highlight video, Melo shows decent shooting range and good shot-blocking instincts. Dribbling, though, needs some work.
