Small, medium or large?

On the media notes for Sunday’s game against Florida State, freshman Erving Walker was the projected starter in a three-guard lineup with Nick Calathes and Walter Hodge.

But UF coach Billy Donovan didn’t sound like he was leaning toward that lineup when he talked before the game Tuesday.

Donovan said he went with the smaller lineup against Florida A&M because the Rattlers started four guards. But against an FSU starting lineup that features four starters at 6-foot-7 or taller, Donovan sounded as if he planned to go bigger.

“Florida State is a big team across the frontline so I think playing a smaller lineup would probably be a difficult thing to do against them,” Donovan said.
So does that mean freshman Allan Chaney will return to the
starting lineup, or will sophomore Chandler Parsons get another shot at
small forward because he’s been shooting better of late?

“I don’t know yet,” Donovan said. “We’ve changed the starting
lineups a few times and I’d imagine it will continue to change based on
matchups, lineups, who’s practicing well, who’s playing well, who you
want to give an opportunity to. I thought Chandler at the starting spot
was struggling shooting the ball for a while and he’s come off the
bench and he’s had two pretty good games offensively. Maybe it helped,
maybe it didn’t help

“When you’re dealing
with young guys there are going to be ups and downs and I think the one
thing that always concerns you with young guys is can you get a little
more consistency.”

Anyway, here’s the projected starting lineups we
received earlier. But again, don’t be surprised if there’s a change
with Walker.

G Walter Hodge 6-1 Sr. 6.6 ppg, 2.3 apg

G Nick Calathes 6-6 So. 16.0 ppg, 6.4 apg

G Erving Walker 5-8 Fr. 9.4 ppg, 3.15 rpg

F Dan Werner 6-8 Jr. 11.1 ppg, 4.6 rpg

C Alex Tyus 6-8 So. 13.7 ppg, 5.4 rpg

G Toney Douglas 6-2 Sr. 19.3 ppg, 4.5 apg

F Jordan DeMercy 6-7 So. 4.0 ppg, 2.3 rpg

F Ryan Reid 6-8 Jr. 8.0 ppg, 4.3 rpg

F Chris Singelton 6-9 Fr., 9.9 ppg, 7.9 rpg

C Solomon Alabi 7-1 Fr., 7.5 ppg, 4.6 rpg

Donovan had nice things to say about 7-foot-1 FSU center Solomon Alabi, who was granted a medical redshirt last season after suffering a stress fracture in his foot. “He’s
a very agile big guy,” Donovan said. “He’s got great length. He’s a
shot-blocker. When you see guys that tall maybe they are not as quick
changing ends. He’s a terrific runner. He’s a terrific mover.”
