Painter update

Class of 2009 Florida basketball commitment DeShawn Painter told me
Thursday that he’s looking forward to signing a letter of intent to UF
this fall.

The 6-foot-9, 210-pound Painter struggled with foul trouble and did not play down the stretch for the Norfolk, Va.-based Boo Williams Summer League All-Stars in a quarterfinal loss at the Disney AAU 17-under national championships.

“It feels good going to Florida,” Painter said. “We’re just coming off a tough loss but just my style of play, to be there, work hard and get better, I just can’t wait to get there.”

Painter described himself as a big man that can run the floor, get rebounds and block shots. His goal entering Hargrave (Va.) Military Academy this fall is to improve his upper body strength.

“I still have to keep developing my post game,” Painter said. “Keep developing post moves, jump hook. The whole key to my game is to continue to get stronger.”

No members of the Florida coaching staff were here Thursday morning, but I was told they were here Wednesday. Perhaps the staff will show up Thursday night to watch the Team Breakdown backcourt tandem of Kenny Boynton and Brandon Knight. Both highly-touted players from the Fort Lauderdale area have expressed interest in playing at UF.
