While Florida has struggled making free throws down the stretch in recent games against Kentucky and Ole Miss, the Gators haven’t been as horrendous at the line as other schools in the Southeastern Conference.
Of the 12 teams in the conference, seven are shooting below 70 percent. Florida ranks fifth in the conference at 70.5 percent.
The three worst teams in the conference are currently shooting below 60 percent. Mississippi State ranks 10th at 59.8 percent, followed by Alabama at 59.7 percent and Auburn at 59.6 percent.
“It’s already cost us some games in our non-conference schedule,” Mississippi State coach Rick Stansbury said.
Said Mississippi State senior forward Charles Rhodes: “We make up for it by defending and rebounding. A lot of it is mental. We just have to keep working at it. Eventually, we’re going to start hitting our free throws.”
