Former Florida commitment Derwin Kitchen has resurfaced.
The 6-foot-4 guard from Raines High in Jacksonville has signed a letter of intent to play at Florida State in 2008.
Kitchen signed a letter of intent to play in Florida’s 2005 class, but was unable to enroll after failing to pass the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test. Kitchen went to prep school for a year and then enrolled at St. Johns CC in the fall of 2006, but withdrew from school in November after failing to meet NCAA academic requirements.
Kitchen enrolled at Iowa Western Community College in January of 2007. In 10 games at IWCC last winter, Kitchen averaged 14.6 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game. He shot 44.4 percent from 3-point range.
Kitchen was runner-up to Keith Brumbaugh for Mr. Basketball in the state of Florida in 2005. He led Raines to state titles in 2003 and 2004.
