Former Florida assistant Donnie Jones is settling into his new position as head coach at Marshall.

“I hope people down there aren’t forgetting about me already,” Jones said during a recent phone conversation.

In 11-years at Florida as Billy Donovan’s right-hand man, Jones built his reputation as an adept recruiter. At Marshall, he’s building through transfers.

This year, ex-Kentucky guard Adam Williams becomes eligible after sitting out due to Division I transfer rules. Three more transfers, including former Florida guard Brandon Powell, will become eligible next year.

Jones said Powell is “doing well” after disciplinary issues led to his decision to leave Florida last June.

In addition, former Georgetown forward Octavius Spann and former Purdue guard Chris Lutz are on the Marshall campus and will become eligible next year.

Lutz scored 16 points as a freshman last season in Purdue’s NCAA Tournament-opening win against Arizona.
