Florida junior guard Jalen Hudson was named SEC Co-Player of the Week on Monday with Tennessee forward Admiral Schofield.

Hudson averaged 24.5 points per game in Florida wins over Alabama and then-No. 23 Kentucky last week, shooting 60.7 percent from the field (17-28) and 54.6 percent from 3-point range (6-11).

Schofield averaged 23.5 points in Tennessee wins over Mississippi State and Georgia.

A Virginia Tech transfer, the 6-foot-6 Hudson has won or shared SEC Player of Week honors three times this season and is averaging a team-high 15.6 ppg.

Florida coach Mike White has been as pleased with Hudson’s defensive play of late as he’s been with his offense.

“He’s guarding,” White said. “He’s flying around. He’s playing with an unbelievable level of confidence right now, and he’s put together a few high-level offensive games to say the least.”

Florida opens SEC Tournament play on Friday night in St. Louis (9:30 p.m. ET, SEC Network). Florida will either play 6 seed Arkansas, 11 seed South Carolina or 14 seed Ole Miss.

  1. Nobody UF has played has been able to stay in front of Hudson when he wants to get to the basket. If he stays aggressive, finishes at the rim, and shoots well from the perimeter, he can carry the offense. If he throws in a little defense, too, the Gators may make a run.
