Florida’s 2018 class landed a verbal commitment Sunday from a three-star athlete out of Miami.
Nigel Bethel Jr., a 5-foot-11, 160-pounder out of Northwestern High, verbally committed to interim coach Randy Shannon and the Gators via his Twitter account. He also has offers from Georgia, Miami and Louisville, among others.

With Bethel’s commitment, which is non-binding until he signs a letter of intent, the Gators have 19 commits in the 2018 class.
Nice to know that 160 lb., three star recruits are still interested in Florida. Maybe we will be able to beat Florida Atlantic again some day. But, seriously, this commitment is fairly meaningless since the new head coach will recruit his own players when he arrives before the early signing period, hopefully.
Three star players from Miami are four star players from just about anywhere else in the country.
Kevin. That is not how high school players are evaluated. It does not matter where you are from. A three star high school player from Akron, Sacramento, Fitzgerald, and Miami are evaluated by the same skill set criteria by recruiting sites.
Remember Jarad Davis was a three star and he was a 1st rd draft pick. Ahead of a 4 to 5 star cb.
Wow Rick…. Negative much?
Conch. Comprehension problems, much? “But, seriously”……..
Adarius Lemons, Malik Davis, Kadarius Toney, Malik Davis, Antonio Callaway, Dre Massey, Lamichael Perine, Vosean Joseph, David Reese, Jachai Polite, Jawaan Taylor, Eddie Pineiro, Quincy Wilson, Brandon Powell, Taven Bryan, Jarrad Davis, Johnny Townsend, Joey Ivie, Trenton Brown. All were consensus ***s.
Eugenio Gator fans don’t care about facts they just want to find anything to complain about, it’s what they do best.
Eugenio. And the Gators have a 3 – 5 record this year with those players. Bama and Georgia are loaded down with 4 and 5 star recruits. What are the records of those two teams with those higher rated recruits?
And Quincy Wilson was not a combined 3 star recruit. He was won of the top rated safeties in his class, but played CB at Florida. And which one of those 3 star recruits is going to make the all-SEC team this year? And most likely will not be playing in a bowl game this year.
It’s probably mostly due to his being undersized right now, which translates to a guy who will need some time to put on some muscle and develop. Note that Georgia offered– remember Georgia? That team that kicked our butts a couple weeks ago?
The new coaching staff has to recruit and sign a lot more 4 and 5 star recruits if the Gators have any hope of competing with either Bama or Georgia in the future. And they have to stop the top stars from leaving the state to play for Bama and Georgia, which they are doing in increasing numbers since McElwain took the job. Yes, the same man who stated that he needed to close the borders to Bama and Georgia. He failed miserably in doing so, and one of the reasons he is no longer the HC at Florida.
Rick, there’s arguments for and against star ratings. Ohio State has as many highly rated classes and one of the best coaches in the country and they got the S*** beat out of them this weekend. Oh yes I know their record but if your an OS fan right now things are bleak because of what it does to their Championship run. I know you live for this blog but we all know the Gators suck right now. It looks like we’ll have to wait on a new coach doesn’t it?
