Florida football’s hustling big men

UF coach Jim McElwain is crediting defensive end Jachai Polite and defensive tackle Kyree Campbell for making the touchdown-saving stop on UT tailback John Kelly after he broke free on a screen pass in the second half. Polite and Campbell chased Kelly for about 40 yards before making the stop.

“(Polite)  was actually one of our defensive players of the game,” McElwain said. “Not because of just that play. But when you look at that singular play, the guy (Kelly) made some guys miss, made a heck of a play, and when you look at it both he and Kyree (Campbell), who were at the line of scrimmage, were the two guys that got to the ball carrier because they never quit.

“And I think in saying that, you can point to something, I thought our guys really played hard in a lot of instances. But if he’s not there and Kyree’s not there, that guy scores. So it kind of puts a smile on your face.”

  1. I want to thank Butch and the UT coaches for playing 7 in the box with 9 seconds remaining. Gators needed 30 yards to get in Pinero range, so I guess Butch thought a regular front with the DBs 10 yds behind and the safeties 30. Two safeties, not four plus more as he should have had. Thanks Butch. Hope the next UT coach is as dumb. In Knoxville, they are calling for his head after that bone-head alignment.
