Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp infielder Eddy Alvarez carried the United States flag into the Olympic Stadium in Tokyo on Friday morning as the Olympic opening ceremony.

Holding the flag high alongside women's basketball star Sue Bird, Alvarez entered history — joining the likes of Evelyn Ashford, Rafer Johnson and Michael Phelps among the select group of United States flag bearers at the Olympics.

"This is so emotional. I'm feeling the energy from my team right now and it's absolutely incredible," Alvarez told NBC broadcasters during the parade of nations entering the stadium.

Alvarez, from Miami, won a silver medal in speed skating at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. He is attempting to become only the sixth Olympian, and third American, to win medals in both the Summer and Winter Games.
