Caeleb Dressel swims in his men's 100-meter butterfly semifinal at the World Swimming Championships in 2019. The Clay High School graduate is eligible to swim as many as a half-dozen events at the U.S. Olympic Trials.

The U.S. Olympic Trials are entering their final stage.

Hundreds of the top American swimmers begin Wave II of USA Swimming's Olympic trials on Sunday at the CHI Health Center in Omaha, Nebraska, the last step before the Tokyo Olympics next month.

At the head of the pack: Bolles School graduate Ryan Murphy, winner of three gold medals and a world record at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, and Clay High School's Caeleb Dressel, who earned a record eight medals, six gold, at the 2019 world championships in South Korea.

Dressel and Murphy are among nearly a dozen swimmers with connections to Jacksonville or Northeast Florida scheduled to compete during the coming week.

Only the top two finishers in each event earn a berth on the United States team for Tokyo.

Here's a day-by-day, session-by-session schedule of events at the U.S. Olympic Trials.
