Urban Meyer looks on during his final game as Ohio State head coach on Jan. 1, 2019. Meyer has begun assembling his new staff in Jacksonville.

Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer has yet to introduce the new hires on his coaching staff officially.

But it could come at some point this week.

Meyer must have high regard for the Seattle Seahawks' franchise because he hired four former assistants off Pete Carroll's staff. They are offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell, passing game coordinator/quarterbacks coach Brian Schottenheimer, special teams coordinator Brian Schneider, and wide receivers coach Sanjay Lal.

Who will work to develop Lawrence?

Meyer's most recent hire is Schottenheimer, who spent the past three seasons as the Seahawks' offensive coordinator. But last month, Carroll parted ways with Schottenheimer, although the Seahawks scored a franchise-record 459 points last season.

In 2018, Carroll hired Schottenheimer to replace then fired offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell.

Brian Schottenheimer, then the Jets' offensive coordinator, watches his team before a 2011 game against the Chiefs. He is expected to join the Jaguars' staff for 2021.

With Bevell and Schottenheimer on board, you can expect the Jaguars' offense to balanced with the potential to be high-scoring.

With the Jaguars expected to use their No. 1 overall pick to select Trevor Lawrence, Bevell has had success working with quarterbacks. He was the quarterbacks coach with the Green Bay Packers (2003-05) when Brett Favre was with the franchise. As the Seahawks offensive coordinator (2011-17), he helped to develop Russell Wilson.

During Bevell's seven seasons in Seattle, the Seahawks ranked in the top five in rushing four times, including leading the league in 2014. Bevell was fired by the Seahawks after the 2017 season when they went 9-7 but missed the playoffs for the first time since 2011 after ranking 15th in total offense.

Schottenheimer is a longtime coach, starting his career with the St. Louis Rams as an assistant in 1997. He has served as offensive coordinator for the Jets, Rams and Seahawks, and was the former quarterbacks coach for the Redskins, Chargers and Colts. In 2015, Schottenheimer was the Georgia Bulldogs' offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

His father, Marty Schottenheimer, a former head coach of the Browns, Chiefs, Washington and Chargers, died Monday night from Alzheimer's disease. He was 77.

Warhop only reported holdover retained

Offensive line coach George Warhop remains the only reported holdover off former coach Doug Marrone's staff that is expected to be retained by Meyer. Warhop joined the Jaguars' in 2019 and is regarded highly by the Jaguars' offensive linemen. Warhop also was Marrone's position coach when he played for NFL Europe in 1991-92.

There have no speculation or confirmation on whom Meyer may hire as running backs coach, so it has not been ruled out yet that Terry Robiskie could be under consideration. He has served as the Jaguars' running backs coach since 2019.

Who is the assistant offensive line coach?

Todd Washington confirmed that he had joined the Jaguars as an assistant offensive line coach on his Twitter account. Washington played in the NFL as an offensive lineman with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1998-2002) and Houston Texans (2003-2005). He served last season as an assistant with the New York Jets. He was the Baltimore Ravens assistant offensive line coach from 2011-16.

First-time NFL assistants

Tight ends coach Tyler Bowen, defensive backs coach Chris Ash and assistant head coach/linebackers coach Charlie Strong are making the job to the NFL for the first time like Meyer.

Bowen spent the past three seasons at Penn State, serving last season as co-offensive coordinator and tight ends coach. Ash was Meyer's co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach at Ohio State in 2014-15. He was the head coach at Rutgers from 2016-19, but was fired 8-32, 3-26 in the Big Ten Conference before he was fired. Ash spent last season as the defensive coordinator and safeties coach for the Texas Longhorns.

Strong spent 10 seasons as a head coach at Louisville, Texas and South Florida. He was served on Meyer's staff as defensive coordinator on the Gators' 2006 and 2008 national championship teams.

Base defense likely to be a 3-4 scheme

Defensive coordinator Joe Cullen is likely to use a 3-4 base defense instead of a 4-3, which was used by former defensive coordinator Todd Wash. Cullen, a former Jaguars defensive line coach in 2010-12, spent the past five seasons with the Baltimore Ravens as their defensive line coach. It will be his first coordinator job in the NFL. On the college ranks, Cullen was a former defensive coordinator at both Richmond and Indiana.

Who is the defensive line coach?

Tosh Lupoi, who served as the Atlanta Falcons defensive line coach and run-game coordinator last season, is expected to serve as defensive line coach. Before Atlanta, Lupoi was the Cleveland Browns defensive line coach. He was the defensive coordinator and outside linebackers coach on Nick Saban's staff at Alabama in 2018.
