Mississippi State football vs. Ole Miss in the Egg Bowl: Live updates, score

STARKVILLE — Once the dust settles at Davis Wade Stadium on Thursday night, one team will have the Golden Egg — and the other will count down the days until next season, plotting revenge.

Mississippi State (7-4, 4-3 SEC) has been the latter team for the last year, waiting for Thursday's kickoff (6:30 p.m., ESPN) to arrive. No. 8 Ole Miss (9-2, 5-2) came out on top last season, edging the Bulldogs by a touchdown.

The two teams enter this year's edition of the Egg Bowl with more to play for than bragging rights — although that tends to be motivation enough.

The winner can secure a second-place finish in the SEC West, the first time either team has managed that high of a finish since 2015. And a win can solidify a bowl resume, pushing Mississippi State or Ole Miss into a higher profile game.
