Top defensive end prospect George Wilson surprised many by signing his letter of intent on Wednesday morning.

The Virginia Beach Green Run standout has decided to sign with Florida State. Wilson announced his decision via Instagram.

According to the 247Sports composite rankings, Wilson is the No. 24 weak-side defensive end and the No. 365 overall recruit in the 2021 class.

After South Carolina fired Will Muschamp last month, Wilson opened up his recruitment again. Even while he was committed to the Gamecocks, Florida State and Auburn became possibilities just in case he changed his mind.

He was trending towards Auburn before the Tigers fired head coach Gus Malzahn Sunday. Shortly after this announcement, he started trending towards FSU, signing on the dotted line Wednesday morning.

Wilson is the 12th player to sign with the Seminoles' 2021 class Wednesday. However, he's the first of those 12 that is a new commit. The rest were already committed to FSU and signed Wednesday morning.
