Griffin McDowell

Florida’s Griffin McDowell will play on the opposite side of the ball this season.

After spending his first three years as a reserve offensive lineman, McDowell has a new number and position. He has switched over to the defensive line and now wears No. 97 instead of No. 62.

McDowell has appeared in 24 career games, including nine last season as a special teams contributor. His Twitter bio now says "University of Florida D-Lineman."

With his position change, the Gators now have 13 scholarship defensive linemen (excluding BUCK players). McDowell is the second member of Florida’s 2018 class to switch from offense to defense.

Following two years as a reserve tight end, Dante Lang moved to defensive end prior to last season. Lang appeared in 11 games and finished with five total tackles.

UF begins fall training camp Aug. 6.
