Florida defensive lineman Zachary Carter (17) will have a new number in 2021.

Florida released an updated football roster Thursday for the start of spring practice.

UF also listed the new assistant coaches with their official job titles. Garrick McGee will be the quarterbacks coach, while Wesley McGriff has been hired as the secondary coach (safety and nickel) and Jules Montinar will work with cornerbacks.

With the departure of offensive coordinator Brian Johnson, wide receivers coach Billy Gonzales and offensive line coach John Hevesy resume their roles as passing game coordinator and running game coordinator, respectively.

Here are notes and observations from Florida 2021 spring roster:

• Despite the NCAA a free year of eligibility to all fall sport athletes, that is not reflected on Florida’s updated roster. Returning players are classified how they would have been in a normal year, so true freshmen who played at least four games last season are listed as sophomores this spring.

• As previously reported by The Sun, UF has four sixth-year seniors who decided to take advantage of their extra eligibility: receiver Rick Wells, offensive linemen Stewart Reese and Jean Delance and linebacker Jeremiah Moon.

• Defensive end Zachary Carter, who decided to return for his redshirt senior season, is rocking a new jersey number. He has changed from No. 17 to No. 6. Another defensive end, Dante Lang, also switched from No. 81 to No. 18.

• Clemson transfer and former five-star running back Demarkcus Bowman has been assigned No. 23. At defensive tackle, Auburn graduate transfer Daquan Newkirk will wear No. 44 and Penn State graduate transfer Antonio Shelton has No. 55.

• Here are the jersey numbers for Florida’s 12 mid-year enrollees. No. 3 Jason Marshall Jr. (CB), No. 8 Carlos Del Rio-Wilson (QB), No. 11 Jalen Kitna (QB), No. 13 Donovan Mcmillon (DB), No. 20 Corey Collier Jr. (DB), No. 21 Desmond Watson (DT), No. 31 Jordan Young (CB), No. 36 Chief Borders (LB), No. 81 Daejon Reynolds (WR), No. 84 Nick Elksnis (TE), No. 90 Chris Thomas Jr. (DT), No. 91 Justus Boone (DE)
