On Nov. 7, 2006, as the Miami Hurricanes were preparing to play the Maryland Terrapins a few days later and break a two-game losing streak, one of the program's most tragic moments happened that night.

Bryan Pata, a charismatic senior defensive lineman and one of the team's leaders, was shot and killed in the parking lot of a Kendall apartment complex where he lived, 4 miles from campus. He was 22 years old.

After 14 years, Pata's murder remains unsolved.
