Four-star LB Shemar James of Faith Academy recommits, signs with Florida over Alabama
Faith Academy four-star linebacker Shemar James, who decommitted from Florida in the fall, signed with the Gators over Alabama football and Georgia Wednesday evening during the early national signing period.
James, the nation's No. 64 recruit and No. 7 linebacker according to the 247Sports Composite, committed to Florida this summer but decommitted in October as Florida's season sputtered.
Eventually coach Dan Mullen was fired. James, however, saw enough in new coach Billy Napier to stay the course with the program.
James would have given Alabama another body in the linebacker corps as in-state four-star prospect Robert Woodyard flipped his commitment to Alabama to Auburn on Wednesday.
Alabama's lone linebacker signee, Shawn Murphy of Virginia, won the Butkus Award for the nation's top high school linebacker. Crimson Tide four-star edge signee Jihaad Campbell has the skillset to play linebacker.
Alabama entered the signing period No. 2 behind Georgia. If Alabama can keep its spot atop the rankings, this will be Alabama's second straight No. 1 class and 10th since 2011.
