Bowl season gets underway Friday with the Bahamas Bowl between Toledo and Middle Tennessee. Here are Oklahoma connections for every bowl from that one to the Jan. 4 Texas Bowl between LSU and Kansas State and all of them in between:

Marshall: Offensive graduate assistant Ryan Freeman coached wide receivers at Oklahoma Baptist in 2014 and spent time at Westmoore and Southmoore high schools. He’s an East Central alum. Assistant athletic director for football operations Mark Gale is an Ada native who grew up in Purcell. He’s an OSU alum and coached at OU for six seasons beginning in 1984.

UTSA: Cornerback JayVeon Cardwell played for Oklahoma State in 2018. Cornerback Xavier Player appeared in one game for the Cowboys in 2019. This season, he played in eight games with one assisted tackle. Cornerbacks coach Nick Graham is a former Millwood standout who played at Tulsa from 2003-06. He was a student assistant for the Golden Hurricane in 2013, then a defensive analyst there in 2014-15. From 2016-18, he coached defensive backs at UCO. Run game coordinator/offensive line coach Matt Mattox was Tulsa's co-offensive coordinator/offensive line coach in 2015. Co-defensive coordinator/safeties coach Jess Loepp is a Turpin native who played on UCO's Lone Star Conference winning teams in 1998 and 1999. He coach at Oklahoma Bible Academy in 2002 and at Tulsa from 2003-05 (defensive graduate assistant), 2007 (recruiting coordinator/safeties) and from 2009-14 (various roles including director of high school relations, safeties coach and recruiting coordinator). Associate head coach/offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Barry Lunney Jr. was Tulsa's quarterbacks coach in 2000-01 and wide receivers coach in 2002.

San Diego State: Defensive analyst Kevin Wolthausen was OU's defensive line coach in 1993-94.

Hester has nine catches for 195 yards and two touchdowns. Graduate defensive back Allie Green IV is a Tulsa transfer. Green has 29 tackles and six pass breakups. Redshirt senior defensive back Akayleb Evans is a Tulsa graduate. Evans has 29 tackles and four pass breakups. Redshirt freshman offensive lineman EJ Ndoma-Ogar is an OU transfer. Ndoma-Ogar played in four games. Head coach Eliah Drinkwitz was born in Norman. Secondary coach Aaron Fletcher was an assistant at Tulsa from 2015-20. Running backs coach Curtis Luper coached running backs at OSU from 2005-08 and played for the Cowboys from 1984-87.

Sophomore linebacker Carson Kropp is from Owasso and transferred from OSU. He has 16 tackles, one for loss. Freshman quarterback Bryce Drummond is from Pawhuska. Freshman linebacker Jacobi Johnson is a former Midwest City standout. Freshman defensive lineman Kevin Greene is from Del City. Redshirt freshman offensive lineman Daxton Byers is a former Deer Creek standout. Head coach Seth Littrell is a Muskogee native who played on OU’s 2000 national championship team. Defensive coordinator and safeties coach Phil Bennett was OU’s secondary coach in 1998. Offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Mike Bloesch was on Tulsa’s staff from 2015-19, the last four seasons as offensive line coach. Running backs coach Patrick Cobbs is a Shawnee native. 

Miami (Ohio): Offensive line coach/run game coordinator James Patton was OU’s offensive line coach from 2006-12.

Head coach Gus Malzahn was Tulsa's assistant head coach/Offensive coordinator in 2007-08. Co-defensive coordinator/secondary coach David Gibbs was a graduate assistant at OU in 1991-92. Offensive line coach Herb Hand was Tulsa's assistant head coach/offensive coordinator/offensive line coach from 2007-09. Co-offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach G.J. Kinne is a Tulsa alum. Wide receivers coach Darrell Wyatt was Oklahoma State's passing game coordinator/wide receivers coach in 2001 and OU's wide receivers coach in 2004-05, adding passing game coordinator duties in 2005. He returned to OSU as an offensive analyst in 2015. 

Florida: Interim head coach Greg Knox is a Northeastern State alum and began his coaching career there as a graduate assistant in 1988-89. Quarterbacks coach Garrick McGee will call the plays for the Gators in the bowl, though he won’t be retained on Billy Napier’s new staff. McGee is a former Tulsa Booker T. Washington standout who went to NEO and OU, where he finished his career fourth in passing yards in Sooners history. He was an assistant coach at Langston in 1996-98.

Hawaii: Senior defensive lineman Zacchaeus McKinney is an OU transfer. McKinney has 11 tackles, one sack and one quarterback hurry this season. Head coach Todd Graham is an East Central grad who was a head coach at Carl Albert High School and for four seasons at Tulsa. Offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Bo Graham is a Tulsa grad who was the Golden Hurricane’s running backs coach in 2007-08 after serving as a student assistant from 2003-05. He spent 2010 as Tulsa Central’s offensive coordinator. Defensive line coach Dan Phillips is from Marlow, played at Southeastern Oklahoma State and graduated from UCO. He’s coached at Edmond Memorial, Edmond Santa Fe, Broken Arrow and Central Marlow, and was Tulsa’s defensive line coach from 2003-05.

Memphis: Redshirt sophomore linebacker Cole Mashburn is a former Norman North standout. He has 46 tackles, four quarterback hurries and a forced fumble. Former Mustang and Oklahoma State standout David Glidden is the Tigers’ wide receivers coach.

He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Langston in 1991 and was the Sooners’ defensive line coach from 1999-2012.

Senior kicker Dalton Witherspoon is from Moore and also went to NEO. Witherspoon is 15 of 23 on field goals, and made 57 extra points. Junior safety Thabo Mwaniki is an Oklahoma State transfer. Mwaniki has six tackles. Head coach Dana Holgorsen was Oklahoma State's offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach in 2010.

Outside linebackers coach Mike Ekeler was a defensive graduate assistant at OU in 2003-04. Offensive line coach Glen Elarbee was a graduate assistant at OSU in 2008-09. Quarterbacks coach Joey Halzle is an OU alum, spent 2009-11 as an offensive quality control assistant with the Sooners and 2012-14 as a graduate assistant. Football head strength coach Mark Hill was an assistant director of strength and conditioning for the Sooners from 2000-03. Utah: Sophomore cornerback JaTravis Broughton is a Tulsa Union alum. Broughton has nine tackles and three pass breakups. Junior running back T.J. Pledger is an OU transfer. Pledger ran for 671 yards and six touchdowns and had 10 catches for 107 yards.

LSU: Sophomore running back Tre Bradford briefly transferred to OU during the summer before returning to LSU. Bradford had two carries for 11 yards this season. Interim head coach/offensive line coach Brad Davis was a member of OU’s 2000 national championship team, playing for the Sooners in 1999-2002. Wide receivers coach/assistant head coach Mickey Joseph was UCO’s running backs coach in 2004-05 and head coach at Langston in 2011-12 after serving as an assistant coach there in 2008-10.

Kansas State: Senior offensive lineman Logan Long is from Woodward. Long played in 11 games. Assistant head coach/passing game coordinator/cornerbacks coach Van Malone coached Tulsa’s secondary in 2010-11, OSU’s safeties in 2012 and OSU’s cornerbacks in 2013-14.
