NORMAN — From Heisman Trophy favorite to the transfer portal.

After losing his starting job this season, and in the aftermath of Lincoln Riley's departure to USC, OU quarterback Spencer Rattler announced Monday that he was entering the transfer portal.

Rattler entered the season as the Sooners' starting quarterback and was the Las Vegas favorite to win the Heisman Trophy coming into the season, but struggled early.

After scuffling against Texas, Riley pulled Rattler in favor of freshman quarterback Caleb Williams, who led an historic comeback over the Longhorns and held the job for the rest of the season.

Rattler threw for 1,483 yards, 11 touchdowns and five interceptions this season and finishes his Sooners career with 4,595 yards, 40 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

He came to the Sooners in 2019 as a five-star prospect from Phoenix. After redshirting his first season, Rattler took over as the starter last season, throwing for 3,031 yards, 28 touchdowns and seven interceptions last season.

Rattler is the first current OU player to announce intentions to leave after Riley was hired by USC on Sunday.

"Thank you to every teammate and coach these last three season," Rattler wrote. "We won several games together and made memories that I will cherish forever."
