Florida’s 2021 class landed a massive recruiting victory over an in-state program Sunday with Jason Marshall Jr.’s decision to commit to UF.
Gators coach Dan Mullen retweeted Marshall's post soon after his announcement.
Ranked the No. 2 cornerback and the No. 29 overall prospect in the 2021 class in 247Sports' composite ranking, the five-star defensive back out of Miami Palmetto was trending toward both Alabama and Miami in recent weeks prior to committing to UF.
After Leonard Taylor and Brashard Smith –– Marshall’s highly recruited teammates at Miami Palmetto –– opted to stay home and commit to Miami, many expected a pledge to the ‘Canes was in the cards for Marshall as well.
With an offer from the Crimson Tide in his pocket as well, the expectation was the 6-foot-2 cornerback would wind up staying home or leaving the state –– not traveling to Gainesville as the first UF signee from the Miami area at defensive back since former Gator and current Jacksonville Jaguars rookie C.J. Henderson.
After today, however, with Marshall becoming the 25th member of Florida’s class, the Gators appear to have regained their mojo in Miami.
