Freeze never met with UF or received offer

Hugh Freeze has reached an agreement with Ole Miss on a contract that will pay him $4 million a year, according to reports.

That would put Freeze out of the running for the Florida job. The question is whether or not he was ever a serious contender.

There was no offer made to Freeze, despite numerous false reports that there was. Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley never met with Freeze and if you know anything about Foley, he has never made a hire in his life without sitting down with a coach and conducting an interview.

Freeze was one of a dozen or so coaches that Florida vetted. But Foley has been working in Gainesville since Sunday.

There was also a report of the UAA plane going to Destin so Foley could meet with super-agent Jimmy Sexton. The plane did make the trip, but Foley wasn’t on it.

Ole Miss athletic director Ross Bjork announced on his Twitter account: “Proud that we have @CoachHughFreeze leading our program for a long time to come. Agreement is in place & future is bright!”

And this from Freeze’s Twitter account: “Very blessed to be at THE University of Miss & work for and with great people and fans! REBELNATION, say it with me, I AM AN OLE MISS REBEL”
