When I Woke Up This Morning … in Arlington

It’s Day Eight in Texas where everything is bigger, I’m told. That includes the giant beers at Boston’s, a sports bar near our hotel in Arlington.

Tomorrow, we move to the media hotel which is in Dallas. The NCAA in its infinite wisdom has placed the media 30 minutes from the stadium. I’m guessing that was part of the bid to get a regional here, that Dallas would have to be involved.

We’ll force ourselves to stay in a luxury hotel and take shuttles to and from the stadium. It’s a tough job but somebody has to do it. Hah!

I saw this statistical comparison on a website called MrSEC.com. They took the production of each SEC player, his positive plays and the minutes he was on the court and declared that Ole Miss forward Murphy Holloway was the most productive player in the SEC this year. Jarnell Stokes of Tennessee was second.

Florida’s starters? Patric Young had the highest ranking at No. 8 with Erik Murphy at No. 10. Scottie Wilbekin was ranked 28th, Mike Rosario 35th and Kenny Boynton 37th.

The Player of the Year Kentavious Caldwell-Pope of Georgia was ranked seventh. Marshall Henderson of Ole Miss was 24th.

I’m not sure how accurate their formula is because four of LSU’s players were in the top 16 and Kentucky had zero.

  1. Pat,
MR.SEC.COM and their rating of FLORIDA BASKETBALL is deceiving.
The ranking that took me off guard, pardon the pun, was Guard, Scottie’s ranking. To even judge the POSITIVE PLAYS he’s been a part of this season would be a ‘feat’ in of itself, as this young man’s performance is not always going to make a ‘stat’.
But when watched with ‘basketball eyes’, Scottie has been the most consistent player for this team throughout the entire season. So many times this year, when Florida needed a big-play, it was the Gainesville native that drove to the hoop and CREATED OFF THE DRIBBLE to give the Gators a much needed lift during their many droughts on offense.
Here’s hoping the offensive droughts are over for Florida Basketball, because as the SWEET 16 play begins, the cost of offensive droughts usually end seasons! So, GO GAOTRS! CHOMP-CHOMP! Keep the faith, and keep believing in one another, and ANYTHING’S POSSIBLE!
