Hangin’ with Omar Hunter

I just finished spending some time with Omar Hunter, the Florida recruit whom Urban Meyer has called the Tim Tebow of the latest recruiting class, and I can tell you he’s the real deal.

I don’t know if he can make an impact as a freshman or not, but he’s interesting, intelligent and has an easy laugh when you start asking him about the call he had to make to Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis when he decommitted.

Meyer has said he’s on Omar Hunter Watch until the defensive tackle shows up May 11, but it’s the media that should be on Omar Hunter watch.

Hunter took me on a tour of the facilities at Buford High School, pointing out additions and construction like a proud athletic director.

But I don’t want to give too much away. You can read my piece on Hunter in The Sun next week and online at Gatorsports.com. But as a preview, here are five questions with Omar Hunter.

Q. Who dominates on your iPod?
A. Jay-Z. Definitely Jay-Z.

Q. Who is your favorite athlete?
A. Jerry Rice in football and Allen Iverson in basketball. Although I’m a Kobe man. I love Iverson but it might be Kobe.

Q. Who is your hero?
A. Tim Tebow is my hero.

Q. What is your favorite team?
A. The San Francisco 49ers and the New York Yankees. I grew up watching Joe Montana and Steve Young throwing to Jerry Rice.

Q. What is your favorite food? A. Lasagna. It would have to be lasagna or a good pizza.
