SEC Insider: Season for the ages

Fitting.

That’s the only word to describe the last weekend of the SEC regular season.

Fitting.

A wild and crazy season came down to one final game and four overtimes.

Perfect.

The SEC title game may have lost some juice with LSU’s loss to Arkansas but this was still the best season for watching the league in my 30 years as a sportswriter.

I mean, what other league gives you 50-48 in three overtimes one day and 52-50 in four overtimes the next? Both with dynamic implications.

My wife gave me an HD television for my birthday and it just made the weekend that much better. I think some day we’re going to look back at this year and realize how special it was.

The SEC may not have a national champion, but it proved where the best football is played. Not just the best talent, but the most interesting football.

I know I’m provincial, but unless you watched this season from cover to cover you can’t possibly realize how much fun it was.

Just take Kentucky.

The Wildcats scored 440 points this season and lost five games.

And so we come to the end, LSU vs. Tennessee for the SEC. The Vols lost two games by 63 points and are playing for a championship against a team that lost its two games in a combined six overtimes.

Just the way it should be.
