We tend to get provincial covering the SEC so Friday was a chance to see a highly touted player from another part of the country – Nevada’s 6-foot-11 forward Nick Fazekas.
I had been warned by a Nevada beat writer not to get sucked in by a bad half by Fazekas and yet I did. He scored four points in the first half against Creighton and had four turnovers.
By the time the game was over and Nevada had won in overtime, Fazekas had fouled out with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
So what do I think? I think he’s OK. He’s certainly not a player of the year candidate. He’s slow and looked soft in this game. He does have a sweet stroke and knocked down a 3.
But if you have Memphis advancing Sunday out of the South, you should be fine. The Tigers are big, strong and mean inside and they’ll eat Fazekas up.
