Amanda Lorenz picked up her second Southeastern Conference Player of the Week honors of the season after she helped the fifth-ranked Florida softball team to a series sweep over No. 19 Mississippi State.
Lorenz paced the Gators with a .636 batting average with a 1.455 slugging and .714 on base percentage. Lorenz set the tone for the weekend against Mississippi State when she blasted a solo home run in the first inning of the first game of the series. She went on to finish the game 4 for 4 and a double shy of hitting for the cycle.
The Moorpark, Calif., native helped clinch the series after breaking a 1-1 tie in the fourth with her second grand slam of the season. Earlier in the week, Lorenz went 1 for 2 against Florida A&M with a double, two runs scored and a pair of RBI.
The No. 5 Gators (41-7) will host No. 8 Florida State (38-8) at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium at 6 p.m. today in the final installment of the Fresh from Florida Sunshine Showdown. FSU won the previous meeting in Tallahassee 4-1 on April 11.
