Baseball roundup: Guthrie will sign with Phillies


Three Florida baseball players, fresh off a national championship, made decisions about their playing status.
Junior shortstop Dalton Guthrie, a sixth-round MLB draft pick last month by Philadelphia, announced on social media that he will sign with the Phillies.
Junior catcher/first baseman JJ Schwarz, who was selected in the 38th round by Tampa Bay, announced on his Instagram account Friday that he will return for his senior season.
At Wednesday’s celebration at McKethan Stadium, second baseman Deacon Liput, a draft-eligible sophomore who was selected in the 29th round of the MLB draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers, said he plans to return for his junior season.
