•Florida pitcher Brady Singer improved to 2-1 with a 2.66 ERA and 40 strikeouts in four starts (five appearances) in this year’s NCAA Tournament.
• Singer is now 2-0 with a 2.57 ERA and 21 strikeouts in two starts in this year’s CWS.
•Singer and Alex Faedo have combined to pitch 28.1 innings in this CWS, have allowed just 14 hits, four runs, walked nine and struck out 43.
• Singer posted a CWS Finals record-setting 12 strikeouts in his seven-inning outing.
• Singer’s 11th strikeout in the sixth inning broke the record for most strikeouts in a single CWS Championship Finals game (first set
in 2004 by Cal State Fullerton’s Jason Windsor and tied four other times).
• Singer’s 12th strikeout in the seventh broke the record for most strikeouts in a CWS Championship Finals series. The record was
most recently held by Texas’ Chance Ruffin (11), set in 2009 vs. LSU.
• Singer’s 12 strikeouts also tie the CWS-high for most strikeouts in a game at TD Ameritrade Park.
• With 13 strikeouts on the night, the Gators broke into the top-five for most strikeouts by a team in a single CWS appearance with
65. They are tied for third with Southern California and Texas. Arizona State holds the record at 77, set in 1967 through
six games.
• The 4-3 win is the Gators’ first ever CWS Finals victory. Prior to tonight, Florida was 0-4 in two CWS Finals appearances.
• Dalton Guthrie’s first-inning single was the 10th CWS hit of his career, setting a UF record for hits in the series. He was
previously tied with Mike Zunino and Preston Tucker with nine.
• Ryan Larson’s single in the third was his first hit of the CWS and third of the NCAA Tournament. He was in an 0-for-24 slump
before the hit.
• Closer Michael Byrne earned his 19th save of the season and third of the CWS. Three saves is tied for the 2017 CWS-high with
LSU’s Hess, and his 19 of the season lead the nation.
• Florida has won 19 one-run games this season. No other school has more than 14 (Oregon State).
• LSU is vying for its seventh CWS Championship … The Tigers have won the title each of the previous six times LSU made it to the
Championship … A seventh title this season would snap a tie with Texas for second-most in CWS history.
• LSU has the highest winning percentage in NCAA Tournament history with a 152-60 (.717) record … The Tigers have a 40-26
(.606) all-time mark in CWS games.
• LSU’s previous titles came in 2009 (vs. Texas), 2000 (vs. Stanford), 1997 (vs. Alabama), 1996 (vs. Florida State), 1993 (Wichita St.)
and 1991 (Wichita St.).
• If the Tigers want to win their seventh championship, they’ll need to stave off elimination once again Tuesday … LSU has already
fought off elimination three times this CWS, a first in the program’s history.
• If LSU wins the title, it would be the first time the Tigers won while fighting through the losers’ bracket … The previous six times
the Tigers started 2-0.
• The Tigers’ 6-0 record when playing for the title is one of the best in any sport in Division I … Minnesota is the only other team to
make it to the CWS championship game even three times without a loss.
• LSU leads the overall series with Florida 61-48-1 … The last 20 meetings are now tied 10-10… LSU suffered its first-ever loss to
Florida in the CWS and now holds a 4-1 all-time mark against the Gators in CWS games … The Tigers won two-straight games over
the Gators in Omaha in both 1991 and 1996 en route to national championships.
• LSU batters struck out a season-high 13 times against Florida pitching … It marked the sixth double-digit strikeout game of the
season for the Tiger bats.
• Antoine Duplantis hit the first home run off Florida pitching this CWS to put LSU on the board in the bottom of the sixth … It
snapped Florida’s 15.2-inning scoreless streak and was the first HR given up by Gator pitcher Brady Singer in the NCAA
Tournament … It was Duplantis’ second home run of the season and first since March 18 against Georgia.
• LSU finished with a 9-6 hit advantage, marking just the fifth time this season the Tigers have lost when they out-hit their opponent
… LSU is 39-5 when out-hitting its opponent.
• The Tigers are now 1-16 when trailing after eight innings and 9-8 in one-run games.
