Roundup: Postseason pairings set for softball, women’s golf, lacrosse


No. 7 Florida will open defense of its SEC Softball Tournament title Wednesday at Davis Diamond in College Station, Texas.

The Gators (40-15), the tourney’s sixth seed after finishing 12-12 in the regular season, will play 11 seed South Carolina (36-16) at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the first round.

Alabama (50-6) is the tourney’s top seed, while Tennessee (39-13) is the two seed and LSU (40-15) is the third seed, which will play the UF-South Carolina winner in the second round at 12 p.m. Thursday.

The SEC Network will broadcast the first two days of the tournament before ESPN2 handles semifinal and final coverage Friday and Saturday.

Women’s golf: Florida continues its postseason journey this week in Norman, Oklahoma for NCAA Regionals. The Gators are the No. 3 seed at the Norman Regional, behind Texas (1) and Wake Forest (2). Florida is ranked No. 10 in the most recent GolfStat rankings, with Texas sitting at No. 2 and Wake Forest No. 7. Florida finished their 2018-19 regular season ranked No. 9 in the country with two team titles, two individual titles, and seven top-five finishes.

The event will be played at the par 72, 6,407 yard Jimmie Austin Golf Club at the University of Oklahoma. There will be three rounds of stroke play over three days of competition that starts today. The top six teams and top three individuals from each regional will advance to the NCAA Championships May 17-22 at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Lacrosse: Florida (13-6), coming off winning its sixth consecutive conference tournament championship, will plan Johns Hopkins (10-7) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday in Chapel Hill, N.C. Match time is TBA.

A win Friday would pit the Gators against third overall seed North Carolina (15-3), the ACC tournament champion, in the NCAA second round Sunday.

The Gators, on a 10-game winning streak, have made the NCAA Tournament for the ninth consecutive season.

Maryland was selected as the overall No. 1 seed after finishing 18-1 and winning the Big Ten Conference regular-season championship. ACC regular-season champion Boston College (19-1) earned the No. 2 seed and Big Ten tournament winner Northwestern (14-4) rounds out the top four seeds.
