Roundup: Gators heading to Oregon for gymnastics regional


The No. 4 Florida Gators are head to Corvallis, Ore., for April 4-6 NCAA Regional Gymnastics Championships, the NCAA Committee revealed.

2019 marks the start of a new regional championships format: Nine teams compete at four regional sites, Regional First Round – Lowest two seeded teams at each site compete to advance to Day 2 eight-team regional competition; Regional Semifinal Round – Eight teams compete, split into two four-team semifinals. Top two teams in each semifinal advance to Day 3 regional final.

The field for the NCAA Corvallis Regional includes No. 5 Denver, No. 12 Boise State, No. 15 Oregon State, No. 18 Washington, No. 24 Southern Utah, No. 25 Stanford, No. 32 Iowa and No. 33 Arizona.

Women’s golf: At Auburn, Ala., Florida finished fifth at the Evans Derby Experience and freshman Clara Manzalini led the team with her third-place finish.

The Gators started cold and got to as low as seventh on the board but birdies from all five line up players throughout the back nine helped them hold onto their fifth spot (880 +16). Manzalini finished her final round at one-over for a four-way tie for third place.

Sophomore Elin Esborn finished strong, shooting up the leaderboard 13 spots to finish T12. Seven birdies on the day helped her card a one-under score of 71, her best of the tournament. Junior Sierra Brooks also ended on a high note, moving up 17 spots on the board to finish in the top 25 at T25.

Florida State won the even, shooting 293-292-285—870 +6.

Lacrosse: No. 17 Florida (4-6) hosts Brown (4-4) starting at 7 p.m. today at Donald R. Dizney Stadium.
