Gators host LSU
The No. 13 Florida volleyball team welcomes LSU to Exactech Arena at 7 p.m. today in the homestretch of the regular season.
Florida (21-5, 12-2 SEC) sits third in the SEC, while LSU (11-14, 6-8) is seventh.
This is the first of four matches in eight days for the Gators — the team travels to Georgia on Sunday, No. 22 Tennessee on Wednesday and closes out the regular season Nov. 23 at home against South Carolina.
UF holds the 43-13 series advantage over LSU, including a 40-5 record under Mary Wise.
Florida won the last meeting in straight sets on Sept. 26, 2018 in Baton Rouge, La. The Gators took the first set in a close fashion, winning 25-23. Florida then went up 2-0 in the match after winning the second frame 25-21 and clinched the match victory with a 25-17 win in set 3.
Gators fall at Mercer, off to 0-3 start
MACON, Ga. — Delicia Washington scored a career-high 33 points, including 25 in the second half, Thursday but it wasn’t near enough in the Florida women’s basketball team’s 92-82 loss to Mercer.
Funda Nakkasoglu added 23 points for the Gators, who dropped to 0-3.
KeKe Calloway scored 30 points for Mercer (2-1) to lead three other Bears in double-figure scoring.
The Gators dug too big of a hole and despite outscoring the Bears 34-23 in the fourth period couldn’t dig out. Mercer led 39-30 at the half.
Florida next plays at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Indiana.
Addition to 2019 November schedule
Florida is only three games into the 2018-19 season, but the Gators have already made their first commitment to next season’s schedule.
The Gators will play in the Charleston Classic in three games from Nov. 21-24, 2019. The tournament will be held at TD Arena in Charleston, S.C., will also feature UConn, Miami, Missouri State, Penn State, Saint Joseph’s, Towson and Xavier.
This will mark the first time in program history that the Gators play in the city of Charleston.
