UF Athletics: Gators at LSU for SEC volleyball action


The No. 11 Florida volleyball team travels to Baton Rouge, La., to face LSU at 8 p.m. today in the Maravich Center. The match will air on the SEC Network.

Florida enters with an 11-3 overall record and 2-0 in SEC play. The Tigers dropped their first two SEC matches and come in with a 5-8 record overall. The Gators hold the 42-13 series advantage over the Tigers and are 17-6 in Baton Rouge, La.

UF is looking to start 3-0 in conference play for the 24th season under head coach Mary Wise.


Pascoe named Women’s Runner of Week

Junior Jessica Pascoe was named SEC Cross Country Women’s Runner of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.

Pascoe logged the seventh top-10 finish of her career and led the Gators in the women’s 5K race with a time of 16:13.87 at the Mountain Dew Invitational. With her first-place finish, she became the third women in school history to earn three top-5 finishes at the Mountain Dew Invitational and helped Florida’s women win their fifth consecutive title at the home meet.

She has been the Gators’ top finisher at both meets this season and her 5K time was a 58-second improvement from her previous best of 17:11.24, which she recorded at the 2016 Mountain Dew Invitational. Her 5K time also leads the SEC.


Gators finish fourth

DALLAS — The Florida men’s golf team finished fourth Tuesday at the Trinity Forest Invitational, with four Gators in the top 20.

In the final round, John Axelsen moved up two spots to finish third. With the help of an eagle on his first hole of the day and five birdies, Gordon Neale moved up five spots to finish T10.

Aden Ye made a jump in the final round, moving up seven spots to T19. Chris Nido and Eugene Hong finished T35, with Nido moving up eight spots in the finals and Hong jumping 17 spots to finish the tournament.

Competing individually, Manny Girona closed out the tournament alongside Ye at T19.

The Gators will return to Texas next week at the Nike Collegiate Invitational, hosted by Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Sunday-Tuesday.


Araujo is Offensive Player Week

Four goals in a two-match span gives Florida senior Laís Araujo the SEC Offensive Soccer Player of the Week honor.

At Kentucky, Araujo’s three goals in an 18-minute span marked the Gators’ quickest hat-trick in 17 seasons. Her three goals marked her fourth consecutive goal (dating back to the 9-16 Vanderbilt match). She is one of seven in UF history to score four or more consecutive goals.

She leads Florida with five goals and 13 points.
