Redskins tight end Jordan Reed was placed on IR today after six straight games on the inactive list with a slow-healing hamstring.
The seemingly injury-prone tight end may also may require surgery on a nagging toe injury that kept him out of this year’s training camp.
Reed had career lows in receptions (27) and yards (211) this season in the second year of his new contract extension that pays him $46.5 million over five years.
Reed’s breakout year came in 2015 when he recorded 87 catches for 952 yards and 11 touchdowns but will have only played in 52 of 90 games by the end of this season.
The Redskins made another roster move that involved former Gators as the team signed defensive end Alex McCalister to its practice squad. McCalister was waived by the Eagles in September after he went down with an injury and the two came to an injury settlement.
Around the NFL, Eagles tight end Trey Burton caught five of six targets for 71 yards and two touchdowns in Philadelphia’s 43-35 road win over the L.A. Rams on Sunday.
It was Burton’s first multi-touchdown game of his four-year career that has featured a lot of duty on the Eagles special teams. Burton was featured more prominently in the offense on Sunday due to starting tight end Zach Ertz being inactive (concussion).
The once undrafted free agent signed a one-year tender with the Eagles this year for $2.74 million after completing a three-year deal worth a total of $1.53 million at the end of last season. It may seem like a lot of money for a third-string tight end but it shows how much Philly values his versatility as a football player.
Along with more money, Burton also got to pick a number (88) more suitable for a tight end this year after being saddled with the number 47 the past three years.
On a somewhat related note, Burton’s former high school won the 7A state title on Saturday as Venice beat Bartram Trail for the school’s first state title win since 2000.

Lions linebacker Jarrad Davis recorded a strip-sack of Jameis Winston in Detroit’s 24-21 win at Tampa Bay and tallied nine total tackles in the game. Detroit’s defense forced the Bucs into five turnovers and sacked Winston three times.
Bills wide receiver Deonte Thompson had a crucial 34-yard reception during the final moments of overtime to help preserve Buffalo’s playoff hopes as they took down the Colts 13-7 in a blizzard. Colts linebacker Antonio Morrison recorded seven tackles, linebacker Jon Bostic had four total tackles and cornerback Quincy Wilson had three pass deflections for the Colts in the loss at Buffalo.

49ers wide receiver Louis Murphy caught one ball for 20 yards in San Francisco’s 26-16 win over the Houston Texans in the Niners’ second straight win.
Bengals defensive end Carlos Dunlap sustained a chest injury but managed to record a tackle and a pass deflection before he went out in Cincinnati’s 33-7 loss to Chicago.
Redskins Cornerback Quinton Dunbar recorded five total tackles and a pass deflection the Redskins 30-13 loss to the Chargers in Los Angeles.
Falcons Safety Keanu Neal and cornerback Brian Poole recorded four total tackles apiece in Atlanta’s 20-17 win over New Orleans on Thursday Night Football.
Jets safety Marcus Maye recorded four tackles in New York’s 23-0 loss at Denver.
Raiders safety Reggie Nelson recorded five total tackles in Oakland’s 26-15 loss at Kansas City.
