UF roundup: Honors for volleyball, soccer teams

A goal in each match of the weekend — including the tying goal in win against No. 1 Stanford — gave Florida senior Gabby Seiler the SEC Offensive Player of the Week award Monday. This is Seiler’s first SEC Offensive Player of the Week honor as a Gator.

The other players picking up weekly honors are Vanderbilt’s Kaitlyn Fahrner (Defensive) and Alabama’s Taylor Morgan (Freshman).

VOLLEYBALL: After leading Florida to consecutive wins over top-five opponents for the first time in program history, sophomore middle blocker Rachael Kramer and senior outside hitter Carli Snyder received Southeastern Conference weekly honors Monday.

Kramer was named the SEC Player of the Week after tallying 31 kills, including a career-high 20 against No. 5 Nebraska, and hitting .549 in Florida’s victories over No. 1 Texas and the Cornhuskers. The Phoenix, Ariz. native only committed three attack errors in her 51 attempts. And Kramer’s 20-kill outing against the Cornhuskers saw her hit a ridiculous .679 on 28 attacks.

Kramer joined Chloe Mann (Oct. 14, 2012 – Auburn) as the only other Gator since 1998 to hit over .675 and record at least 20 kills. Kramer is also one of two players in the country this year with such a stat line in a match.

Snyder earned SEC Defensive Player of the Week honors. The Macomb, Mich. native totaled 47 digs in Florida’s pair of wins, giving her a league-leading average of 5.22 digs per set. Snyder posted 14 kills, six service aces, 20 digs, and 20.5 points in the win over Texas.

On a team note, the Gators rose to No. 3 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Poll, their highest ranking since moving to No. 2 on Sep. 7, 2015.

Florida heads to San Juan, Puerto Rico, this weekend for matches against N.C. State (Saturday) and No. 16 North Carolina (Sunday). Both matches start at 8:30 p.m., and FloVolleyball will provide live streaming.

Kramer picked up a pair of national honors Tuesday, earning both the American Volleyball Coaches Association and espnW National Player of the Week awards.
