Assistant track coach Spangler leaves UF

Florida assistant track and field coach Paul Spangler is leaving the program and joining Boston University as the program’s head cross country coach, the Gainesville Sun confirmed Tuesday.
MileSplit first reported Spangler’s departure.
“Coaching at UF was a great opportunity,” Spangler told MileSplit. “I will cherish my time at UF, working with world class athletes and a coaching staff next to none. I look forward to taking what I have learned in my 20 years of coaching to Boston University.”
A source at the university, who requested anonymity, confirmed Spangler’s departure from the program.
Spangler, 42, won the 2012 SEC Cross Country Women’s Coach of the Year honors in his first year on the job. But the men’s and women’s team suffered setbacks, with the men finishing eighth in the SEC, marking only the third time since 1996 the team finished outside the top four of the NCAA South Regional Championship.
