(UPDATED, 7 a.m.) Gainesville native and former University of Florida standout Tyson Alexander missed the cut after the second round Friday of the U.S. Open Championship at Erin Hills.
Alexander, 28, shot a 77 for a two-day total of 148 (plus four) for a tie for 92nd place. Top 60 scores plus ties make the cut to advance to weekend play. Four golfers are tied for the lead at 137.
Billy Horschel, another former UF standout, also missed the cut after a two-day total 157.
ERIN, Wisc. — Gainesville native and former University of Florida standout Tyson Alexander shot a one-under par 71 in the opening round Thursday of the U.S. Open Championship at Erin Hills.
Eighteen players shot under par in the morning wave. Members of that contingent ranged from major champions to unproven qualifiers Kevin Dougherty, Davis Love IV and Alexander, who all shot 71. Alexander is tied for 30th place. Ricky Fowler shot a minus-7 65 to lead the Open after the first round.
Another former UF star, Billy Horschel, is tied for 151st after shooting seven-over par 79.
