Wasn’t he committed to UF baseball before he committed to Bama for football? I seem to recall he was. I know he plays baseball and thought about playing both at Bama. Saban won’t let that happen.UF is by far the best school for him to play both sports. Excellent size and a great arm. I don’t know about the mechanics issue.Baseball can help (Mahomes) or hurt (Tebow). If you listen to all the professional guys on TV and radio, everyone who ever lived except Andrew Luck had mechanics issues. I think it is their way of staying relevant. Now all of a sudden, Philip Rivers, who used to get criticized for his throwing motion, has perfect mechanics. Carson got better as the season progressed last year . He wasn’t very accurate early on but was very good late in the season.

History has a tendency to repeat itself sometimes. Georgia went into the 2008 season ranked #1. They beat us the year before. We had a better 2007 season than we did last year, but the 2007 defense was one of the worst I have ever seen at Florida. Georgia had the world’s greatest QB, running backs, defense, receivers. It was supposed to be a can’t miss team. No excuses. We beat them so badly the Georgia fans didn’t even stop at Famous Amos or Huddle House on the way out of Jacksonville. The City lost money. This feels a lot like 2008.You never know.

Yea I would say Egbunu more than any of those listed. I think our guard play has actually improved from last year. We need Egbunu.

You are probably referring to me and I didn’t want to hide from it. I agree with what you said. In fact, a birdie told me months ago, Mac even tried to resign . Haven’t read that and I don’t know if I believe it.Makes sense now though and I think you are right. My thought about the timing is with the last weekend of official visits being this weekend, I didn’t want anyone to see that a coach at Fla who may have recruited many of these kids wanted to get out while we are in the process of trying to get them in. I would have loved to see this article perhaps on Feb. 9 or 10 instead. In any event, Florida is a much better place to be a football player now with Coach Mullen and his staff in place. Any new players in this recruiting cycle will get better , faster and will improve their chances to play in the Big Show down the road after leading the Gators back to championships here. Didn’t mean any disrespect, but I stand by what I wrote.

I hate to see Coach Shannon go too. He looked good in the O and B. Good luck to him and his family. High character, excellent coach.

For once, I’d like to see what evidence the UT fans have to accuse a guy the FBI, local police, Penn State, Ohio State, Tampa Bay and Rutgers missed.I didn’t realize statements on Twitter are now officially recognized as trustworthy by the federal evidence code. Last I checked, there is not a shred of evidence Schiano did anything. I think if someone is going to call a man a ped, he better have the evidence to back up that kind of hideous judgment instead of just claiming he was on the coaching staff. In the meantime, if this thing is tied up in the courts, how could UT hire anyone else? A court could rule UT is obligated to Schiano. In the least, UT needs to know how much to pay him before it makes an offer to another coach. So UT could end up paying 3 buyouts.Given how UT has mishandles this thing, and thrown Schiano under the bus and into the river, he would be motivated to screw things up further for UT.

UT put a mojo on itself when those geniuses hired Lane Kiffen. He was cursed. Remember when he made fun of Urban Meyer and called him out and reported him to the NCAA for contacting Nukeese Richardson during his presser after signing day? Nukeese was his prize recruit. Kiffen took shots at Fla every chance he got. Then the curse started to unfold when Nukeese got busted for armed robbery. Then they lost to us. Then their record sucked. Then he tried turning UT into USC. Then he tried to leave in the middle of the night, all while the villagers were showing up at Frankenstein’s castle with pitch forks and torches. In the meantime, Farmer Fran was texting UT recruits to tell them not to sign their scholly papers and come to USC. UT has sucked since then. The Kiffen Curse is now manifesting itself in a big way, ironically in UT fans having the stones to actually cast judgment on a man they know nothing about . He would have been their best hire in 12 years. Instead, they will now end up with T Martin or Lee Corso.

Amazing. I have been a fan for 50 years. I wonder why we don’t hire fans as coaches, since we know better than anyone else. Fans also make the best QB’s , especially on Monday. Why should Florida get a “home run” hire? All any coach has to do to get a pulse on how unreasonable we are as a fan base is to read any Gator message board. We know everything and Scott Stricklin, the players, coaches, know nothing. The truth is we are one of the most arrogant fan bases out there. You would think 8 years of mediocrity would have humbled us a bit. We fans act like we are more deserving of a win by 50 points than the damn players. Well it’s about them, not us–unless we choose to join them. Mullen was not my first choice, but then again, I don’t know jack sh%$. I know this: the last time we had an offense, Mullen was our coordinator; the last time we won an SEC championship, Mullen was our coordinator; the last time we won a NC, Mullen was our coordinator. We’re damn lucky he came back , instead of dreaming about “names” like the geniuses up in Tenn. Dan Mullen chose us, so I choose him. Welcome back Coach Mullen and Gator nation is invested with you in OUR team!

I respect where folks are coming from re upside and downside of Kelly. We all want what is best for the team and school. But there are some coaches who have clearer evidence of character issues than others. Some are open books, perhaps like Petrino. Others may be more wolves in sheep’s clothing, like Mac. I don’t know. It is a dangerous business to forecast human behavior. From everything I’ve read on Kelly, he is no different than any other coach out there. His NCAA violation was in the past. He learned from it. And Florida is the last place where he would be able to do that again. It was nothing compared to what many other schools have done. He seems to be a guy with a great love for coaching. He loves to come up with schemes to defeat the other guy. He is innovative and has been consistently successful as a coach, even going to the playoffs his first year in the pros after winning 10 games. His offenses have worked. He failed as a GM and he is not going to be the AD here, and I think based on his previous experience, that is the last thing he would want to be. No coach not named Zook loves recruiting but recruiting in Fla is a hell of a lot different than recruiting in Oregon. Spurrier and Meyer , our two best coaches to date, were not exactly in love with booster tours either, but I think Kelly would be welcomed with open arms. The bottom line is the best thing for the school is to get someone like him as a coach. I know he has earned his reputation as a coach. The AD will vet him to death and if he says “yes”, who are any of us to judge, especially since we have one tenth of the information Mr. Stricklin has. Kiffen is a no brainer. And he will not be the next coach at Florida. Whoever is pushing that is someone who just bought his daughter a ticket to a Mylie Cyrus concert.

Chip Kelly is obviously a proven winner and successful offensive minded coach. He would be great here. I think , if true, a home run. But there are many potential homers out there, so we’ll see. I would not get too caught up in this rumor . However, I will say the timing of this rumor with Tenn’s firing of Jones is interesting.

As Mtn said, Les Miles never had much of an offense at LSU. I thought he was a good head coach , though, in the sense that he instilled and showed the ultimate confidence in his team.

This team and us fans have been fooling ourselves on this defense. We’ve been worrying about QB and the offense and assuming the defense was ok. But this game was lost by a team effort and our defense stinks right now. We can’t stop a good running team with a good back–Mich, LSU, Georgia. Kentucky and Mizz exposed our pass defense. But I think the D will be better next year. We are young there and hopefully our ends will come back for a better year than they have showed this year so far.

Pat’s article this morning was probably the best I have read from him. I didn’t read anything in that about Mac making Fla a top 5 program again. He must have said in his podcast. If anything , Pat’s article this morning shed light on the same theme the article in Colorado recently shed light on: Mac’s arrogance. He may have made us top 5 in the SEC again , but not nationally.

I won’t miss his lack of credibility. He got paid royally so I don’t feel sorry for him. I hope he lands on his feet well and learns something about life and coaching from his time here.I hope he succeeds at his next job.

I’m warming up to Frost. Some of you know better about him than I ever did. I’ve read some stuff on him and I like what I am reading. I’m a little concerned about a raise he would get there and the fact he raises money to keep his assistants from leaving for money. We’ll see.
