Quinn will have options

The Jacksonville Jaguars’ hiring of Gus Bradley may have created not just one, but two possible NFL coaching opportunities for Florida defensive coordinator Dan Quinn.

Quinn could end up as the defensive coordinator for the Jaguars, where he would be reunited with Bradley. Quinn worked under Bradley, the Seattle defensive coordinator,  for two seasons (2009-10) with the Seahawks.

Or, Quinn might get a call from Seattle coach Pete Carroll asking him if he’s interested in filling Bradley’s spot on his staff. Quinn was a highly thought of defensive line coach for the Seahawks for two seasons before being hired by Will Muschamp to be UF’s defensive coordinator.

Quinn’s name has also come up as a possible candidate for the defensive coordinator’s job under new Philadelphia Eagles’  coach Chip Kelly.

Here’s one more option: Quinn could remain at Florida.

Meeting with the media late this past season, Quinn talked extensively about how much he is enjoying the college coaching experience, citing how rewarding it is helping and watching the young players develop so rapidly. He indicated he’d like to remain at UF for a while and have a chance to play for championships.

Quinn signed an amended contract with UF last February that runs through the 2013 season. Quinn made $490,000 this past season. His yearly salary will rise to $510,000 on Feb. 1.  And if Quinn is still on the job at UF on Jan. 31, 2014, he will receive a bonus of $80,000.

The money’s obviously good at Florida and Quinn seems to really like what he’s doing and where he’s living. So, who knows, maybe he’ll stay at UF. He choose that option a year ago when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers tried to hire him as their defensive coordinator.

  1. Hey, an article like this without talking about the difference in potential NFL Coordinator salary is missing the mark! Does he “stay” if the NFL offers $1-2MM? What does someone like Quinn command? I know we all fantasize about loyalty and helping kids…yada yada, but 99% of the time its the money that talks!

  5. Who gives one crap about basketball? And it sure is convenient to cut off history where it benefits you the most. By your methods, I could say that Florida has only been in the SEC Championship game 3 times in the past 12 years. See how convenient that is?

Facts are facts and none of these facts are deniable.
