The nine assistant coaches under Urban Meyer in 2010 all have jobs now. The lastest (and last) to hook up with a school was former Gator wide receivers coach Zach Azzanni, who was named the offensive coordinator at Western Kentucky on Thursday.
Two of Meyer’s assistants, of course, were retained by new UF coach Will Muschamp — linebackers coach and special teams coordinator D.J. Durkin and Brian White, the tight ends/fullbacks coach who now is now the running backs coach.
Two more Meyer assistants followed Steve Addazio to Temple — Chuck Heater and Scot Loeffler. Heater, a long-time Meyer assistant, is the defensive coordinator for the Owls, while Loeffler, UF’s quarterbacks coach the past two years, is the offensive coordinator.
Here’s where the other Meyer assistants are now working:
• Teryl Austin, who was hired away form the NFL a little over a year ago to be the Gators’ defensive coordinator, has returned to the NFL, where he is the new secondary coach for the Baltimore Ravens.
• Dan McCarney, the popular defensive line coach under Meyer, is the new head coach at North Texas.
• Stan Drayton, who was in his second stint as UF’s running backs coach, is now the wide receivers coach at Ohio State. Drayton, who was also UF’s recruiting coordinator, is an Ohio native.
The fact Meyer’s assistants all have jobs has an impact on the athletic budget at Florida. Meyer’s assistants were all under contract at UF through the 2011 season. But now that they have other jobs, UF has no further financial obligation.
Goodbye guys don’t let the door hit you on the way out. With that being said I will greatly miss Coach Meyer.
unlike the guy above me, I wish all these coaches the best of luck, and am glad they have found jobs.
I wish all of the former Gator coaches good luck, at least until they face us.
I wish them all luck, but our offensive and defensive back
coaching was awful last year.
BRD
Stan Drayton coaching the WRs at OSU eh? Welp, maybe he can now allow a different group of guys to under perform other than UFs running backs!
Stan Drayton was brought to OSU because of his recruiting knowledge of Florida. Expect OSU to pick up more Florida players going forward.
I’m glad to see these coaches were able to find work. I will misss Meyer, but am really excited about the new direction the Gators are headed. We seem to hnave a recipe for success in place . . .

I second that C3. ATL, you might as well be a Georgia fan w/an attitude like that.
Best wishes to all these former Gator assistants.

Best Wishes to all of the assistants and atl please don’t do anything to Bobby Bowdens statue…
I am happy with Drayton and Loefler being gone, however, I do not wish any bad things for them.
The only coach I was glad to see leave this year is Addazio so I wish the rest good luck and Temple as well they’ll need it.
Hope they do well. I do feel sorry for them re the Meyer situation. They, like the atheletes, were suprised and shocked with Meyer leaving. They too had to deal with the challenge. All the best!
Addazio as Temple’s HC and Loeffler as his OC. The Owls are doomed. Watch them struggle to score points against a schedule consisting of college footballs weakest opponents.
[…] All nine of Urban Meyer’s former assistants have new jobs, reports Robbie Andreu of the Gainesville Sun. […]
good riddance to all these mediocre assistants, who were way overpaid.
Thanks to Chuck Heater and Steve Addazio, who were huge reasons why the Gators won two National Championships. We will miss them both!
Coaching is such a small world. Many guys who graduate from one university end up coaching at an arch-rival school. Many head coaches who are up and coming were assistants previously at the same school (Look at all those who were mentored by Lou Holtz1) Should remind all of them that your “enemy” now may turn out to be your cohert later. You listening UGA defensive coordinator/
Once again, poor reporting by the gville sun. Each assistant coach contract was mitigated, therefore they must be paid through the 2011 season if their new salary is not more then what they were making at UF.
Yep good riddons, take your 2 National titles and your year removed from a 1 loss season.
Stay classy fellow Gators, way to trash a great program.
Glad you guys are Gators thru and thru.
I’ll call you boo birds Gatortrash from now on.
From the real fans thank you for the great run Meyer and staff you’ll be missed.
No thanks to Steve Addazio, who was a huge reason the Gators weren’t very good last year…
Hope all these coaches do well in their next jobs. It makes UF proud and look good when these former coaches succeed elsewhere, except when playing against the Gators!
I have nothing but respect for all the coaches we have had at Florida. Some of them didn’t work out and are now at other schools or in the NFL but they deserve our respect. They gave everything they had to the Gators to make them one of the best programs (if not the best) in the country!!
Go Gators!!!
RE: JD
Lots of respect to most former coaches, but if I ever have to hear the Zooker speak again it will be to soon.
Think Temple will do well with Addazzio & Heater given his resume. Should be able to attract a lot of the local kids in Philly who might otherwise consider Penn St. and Pitt. Best of luck to them.
Someday I wish the Sun would woukld publish a list of all those who have played for UF, coached at UF and what they arew doing now in the coaching profession. Makes me think of the Auburn Head Coach, Gene Chiznick, who was once an unheralded walkon at UF. Would be very interesting to see the names…eg Doug Dickey, June Jones, Galen Hall…
I wish those coaches the very best of luck with their new positions. I look forward to the new staff implemented this upcoming season. Hopefully we can get back to our winning and dominate ways in the seasons to come. GO GATORS!!!!

I might as well be a Georgia fan lol that’s funny. I guess I’m not allowed to want to move on. BOOM!
I’m a Gator fan not an assistant coach fan especially under performing assistant coaches.
Glad for those coaches and wish them well. I have to admit, for a team that under achieved, it is surprising that the assistants grabbed 2 HC positions, 2 OC, 1 DC, and 1 NFL gig with one of the most respected defenses in the NFL. Shows the respect Meyer built.
@ ATL Gator. I agree with you. When a boat is sinking, some times you fix the hole and bail, other times you get a new boat. The shame of it all is Meyer had the best intentions sleep walking through last season, but in the end, instead of saving his assistant’s jobs, they are mostly all gone. The law of unintended consequences. Few coaches can “Bobby Bowden” their way through years and years of not coaching.
Good luck guys.. thanks for the memories… you’d still be here if coach meyer had been able to put in the time needed… I do believe his medical condition was more serious than he let on.. that being said, the gator nation would have embraced him much more had he not been so secretive & opened up about it all..
I’m a Gator fan from a looooooong time back, and I’ve got a grandson on the team. From what I’m hearing, all Charlie Weis does is eat! The boys on the team all make fun of him because he’s so fat! The word around the office is that Weis took this job because of the great unlimited, high-fat food at the Gator training table. Those cheap irish catholics at Notre Dame didn’t give him the daily “all you can eat” buffets like he has in Gainesville. The guy will explode soon, he’s so damn fat!
