Popularity follows Tebow to NFL

Many are questioning whether Tim Tebow’s talent translates to the NFL. But there seems to be little doubt that his popularity will.

According to Bloomberg.com, Tebow broke Southern Cal quarterback Mark Sanchez’ record for number of jerseys sold during the NFL draft weekend.

The league does not disclose sales totals, but the former Florida quarterback logged the most jersey orders since 2006, the first year NFLShop.com joined with the GSI Commerce Inc. to expand its online store. Tebow apparently surpassed Sanchez’ total by a substantial number.

A distant second to Tebow last weekend was defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh of the Detroit Lions.

Tebow was taken in the first round with the 25th pick by the Denver Broncos. The plan is for Tebow to wear the same number he made famous at Florida — No. 15, which formerly belong to wide receiver Brandon Marshall, who was traded to the Dophins a week ago.

  1. Well the Tebow Haters need something to whine about, and its hard when the subject is a HAPPY, well mannered, respectful of all people, HAPPY, family loving, did I mention HAPPY person? Some people just can’t believe a person can be happy all the time so: he must be faking it. All his life he has been in a environment that stressed happiness in Christ. He is what you see. There is not one fake bone in his body. He loves his life and his life is not football. Football is just something he likes to do. No fake just love.

  2. i had hoped to see tim go to a team with a better oline and recievers since thats what held him bak last year but hopefully the broncos will get better in those areas quickly. kudos to them for seeing tims potential, i never really cared for the nfl but will have to watch now. i hope they realize they just picked up a million or so new fans.. congrats tim, keep the faith and lets finally have an awesome gator qb in the nfl.. go gators!! anybody hear what kind of salary/bonus he got?

  3. Colorado is only beginning to understand the “Tebow effect”; just wait until it gets going full stride out there. I predict that whatever happened in the SEC and the rest of college football will be multiplied many times over nationally. You can already watch the whole thing beginning to gain traction. Yep, Timmy’s the genuine article, on many of levels.

  4. It’s the pundits vs the people. The pundits seem to hate him but the people love him. I know one thing’s for sure, the people out in Denver are gonna love him. Hopefully, he will have plenty of opportunity for success and become even more of a national sports role model than what he is now.

  5. I THINK IT IS GREAT THAT TEBOW WAS DRAFTED BY THE DENVER
BRONCOS. HE SEEMS REALLY GLAD TO BE THERE. SO….HEY GUYS, HE IS STILL WEARING THE ORANGE AND BLUE!!
I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A DENVER FAN AND OF COURSE WE ALL LOVE TEBOW, SO I AM ON CLOUD 9.
GO GATORS! GO TEBOW! GO BRONCOS!

  6. Popularity won’t be the problem, it’s going to be a matter of how well his skills translate. It’s always interesting to see if mobile quarterbacks can use it to their advantage in the NFL (like Roethlisberger got good at buying time, but not necessarily taking off with it.)

I’m still a little surprised Tim didn’t do better on the wonderlic during the combing – got a 22, while most of the successful qbs of late (Mannings, Brees, Brady) all scored close to or better than 30. Smarts might be a big deal, not that the test is easy. I tried it at http://bit.ly/nfliqtest and got a 24…
